I'm always happy to see Gio Black Peter (pictured above), as I was at Earl Dax's fantastical Pussy Faggot party last Thursday. Gio and I worked together at Boysroom, where I had my first weekly DJ gig in NYC three years ago this May, before he jetted off to London for a bit. I'm glad to see Gio back in NYC.
Of course, he was giving his half-naked all onstage. He closed out the night on the basement stage hosted by the hilarious Penny Arcade, who kept us all laughing with jokes, her general fabulousness, and a song she sang in Spanish while we waited through some technical difficulties between acts. Before the show, Wonder Twin Brian Mills (pictured below) and I ran into Gio upstairs for some photo-ops and chit chat.
Once on, Gio ripped through a brand new song called "Kamakaze Kid" and rocked older cuts like "Peter v. Robot" and "It's F**ked Up." He jokingly changed some of the lyrics from the latter to reflect his start time's hour or so delay. It's OK, Gio. Some people are worth the wait. Everyone before Gio put on a good show, too. More on them soon.
I still have to edit the Flip footage I not-exactly-successfully shot while taking pictures. (Juggling and aiming two view finders while thinking about camera angles as well as video footage on a few cocktails is not exactly easy). But I did get some nice sequences of Gio dancing, which I think I'm going to use for a video for a new track I finished late last night/this morning, "My Man Flow Tight."
I know it's not Remix Friday. Since I didn't post something last week, I thought I'd share it here. A line from the track--I know you want my thing--could describe Gio's peek-a-boo pants that barely not exactly kept his thing in place.
