Last night, I had a fantastical time DJing at Daniel Nardicio's 3rd Annual New Years Eve Masked Ball at Lucky Cheng's. I was downstairs, where all the action was, where it was nice and dark, where people were moving to my dirty electro beats when they weren't ... um ... doing something else. Around 3:00 a.m., Dina Delicious and Ruby came downstairs to dance with us and to pour vodka into everyone's mouth. It's important to keep hydrated, you know. It wasn't the kind of event I could take pictures of the crowd in between mixing; so, all I have to share is this image of the wall behind me. But I wanted to thank Daniel and Dina and everyone there last night. I couldn't have asked for a better way to usher in the new decade. Stay tuned to PhDJ's NYC Nightlife for all the unfolding fantasies to come.
Since it's freezing outside--well, less than freezing, technically--I found myself going through Fire Island photos from this summer. Don't get me wrong. I love New York City's snow-packed sidewalks. But since the radiator in my room isn't blasting its usual summer-like heat today, I was thinking about the gorgeous day I spent in the sand, under the sun, and with a few cocktails in hand. Of course, the Wonder Twin Brian Mills (pictured below) was there; so, there was fantastical fun to be drunk had. We started off in Cherry Grove, where we went swimming, and then headed over to The Pines, stopping off at Daniel Nardicio's beach/party house along the way. We hiked through the bushes that The Village People told us to not go into in their song "Fire Island" because "someone might grab ya." No one did. But we did find a toxic looking lake along the way (above). It was my first time there--yes, I was about to have my gay card revoked--so Brian was giving me the inebriated guided tour. My whirlwind day left me thinking that the island was but a sandier, seafaring Chelsea. I recognized so many of the usual faces in all the bars where we sampled their wares. When we came back to Cherry Grove to see Porsche's show at The Ice Palace, the sun had set. Walking back through the Meat Rack, those bushes the Village People warned us about, was a bit Blair Witch Project because there was no light to guide us along the windy trail we'd followed. I was looking forward to the show--I'd worked with Porsche (pictured below, let column) for a while but had never seen her rock Fire Island, which she did. Logan Hardcore (pictured below, right column) came onstage to do a number, too. (Earlier that afternoon, at the pool at The Ice Palace, Logan had us laughing hilariously as she did Beyoncé's "If I Were A Boy," during which she serenaded a dildo). After the show, we had a few more rounds on Brian's friend Richie's gorgeous boat tied up near the dock where the mainland ferry comes. So, there was plenty of time to run to catch the last one back. Since it's Christmas this week, I'm including this shot of a the perennially lit "tree" at a bar we walked through to get to the boat.
It's Friday; so it's time to post another fantastical PhDJ revision. This week, it comes with my post about the debut CONTROL party hosted by Johnny and Glammy-nominated Go-Go Boy Chris Harder (both pictured above) at Uncle Charlie's new Lower East Side location. I DJ'ed while Johnny, Chris, and the other scantily-clad boys worked the crowd, which included Daniel Nardicio. (These photos are by Hao Zeng since I was busy spinning and saying hello to friends).
During my set, I debuted my revision of "Bad Romance" by Lady Rah-Rah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Roma-Ra-Ma-Ma-Gaga-Oh-La-La. Below are my mix, Gaga's walk-walk-fashion-baby in all that Alexander McQueen, and a link so you can write your own "Bad Romance."
We all had a blast and more rounds than we could count, starting with the open bar sponsored by Bulldog Gin. We weren't ready to go home yet once we were done at Charlie's; so Johnny and I cabbed over to Eastern Bloc to catch the last bit of their anniversary party. Ladyfag was there, dancing away. Cazwell was there, too. Of course, I'd played his new cut, "Tonight" earlier. Check out his video:
We all had another round for the road. And I told Cazwell how excited I am for his party next Wednesday called B*tch @ss Trick, where he's performing "Tonight." Of course, Amanda Lepore's going to be there. So will America's Next Top Dance Crew's Vogue Evolution. Check out their flawless choreography for Beyoncé's "Dejà Vu":
