Happy Birthday, Formika! The F Word 29 Jan 10: Part Three
The fantastical Sherry Vine may have warned us before starting that she was going to get "a little Lilith Fair" on us, with an acoustic guitar on her thigh. She also asked us to "please remember that I've only played guitar in front of people twice—and not with tits." But she tore into La Roux's "Bulletproof" like the pro she is. Not the kind of pro she sings about in her parodies. Check out Francis Legge's video here.
There were enough testosterone-fueled power chords from the lead guitarist to make any one of the pretty ladies entertaining us (or Michael T) sprout chest hair.
Everyone tore through their numbers with delicious venom, including Mimi Imfurst doing Nirvana and Peppermint doing Lenny Kravitz (with a bit of her own "Working Girl" tossed in for good measure). One wonderful surprise of the night was Duch (pictured below), who covered my favorite Marianne Faithful cut, "Why d'Ya Do It?"
The birthday boy himself closed out the show, with two monster go-go boys for backup, one of whom was Matthew Camp, and treated those of us in the front row to cupcakes. They were delicious.
