Next Magazine Pride Photo Contest 2011
This photograph of mine was a finalist in Next Magazine's Pride Photo Contest 2011!
Before they commanded the stage at the B*tch @ss Trick party last Wednesday, Cazwell joked that booking Vogue Evolution was harder than booking Madonna. I guess getting Leiomy and Malechi to show was even worse since Dashaun, Devon, and Jorel were the only Evolvers ones taking it out on the dance floor. (Here's the legendary Willi Ninja giving gorgeous angles and lip-syncing to Malcolm McClaren's "Deep in Vogue" for some musical accompaniment).
Take it out on the dance floor--well, stage--Dashaun, Devon, and Jorel did. They each came out solo, in that order; then they cut up together for the finale. The roaring crowd approved. Not seeing Leiomy was as disappointing as Vogue Evolution not winning the fourth season of America's Next Top Dance Crew. But Dashaun, Devon, and Jorel put a smile on my face. There they were, as McClaren's song describes, "voguing pretty / in some club deep in this city." It's not easy--"no one, two, three"--for a trio to make a crowd feel so free.
